Ahmed Fakeih at World Expo, 2025

At World Expo 2025, the Saudi Pavilion became a platform for creativity, hosting a six-month programme of rotating artist residencies and live experiences. Produced by DDX in partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture, the Pavilion introduced global audiences to Saudi talent, including Jeddah-born, Riyadh-based contemporary artist Ahmed Fakeih, through immersive, performance-led storytelling.

Known for combining data science with traditional cultural practices, Ahmed’s research-driven work explores cultural identity, history and societal change. His practice focuses on preserving undocumented music through archives and oral histories, translating this material into modern digital formats for public engagement.

For Expo 2025, Ahmed developed a live audio-visual performance centred on the Khobayti rhythm, merging cultural sound with digitally generated visuals depicting traditional Saudi dance. Created from real human references and transformed into vibrant 2D compositions with layered visual effects, the work offered a contemporary reinterpretation of Saudi heritage.

The performance was supported by Saudi drummers, whose rhythmic, high-energy presence activated the space and encouraged audience participation. Through open collaboration and close alignment with the artist’s creative vision, DDX delivered a fluid, impactful experience that balanced innovation with tradition.
