Meryl Streep, Sam Mendes & James Corden To Be Lauded At 2015 Britannia Awards
Meryl Streep, Sam Mendes and James Corden are the first honorees to be named by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) for the 2015 British Academy Britannia Awards, which is taking place on Friday, October 30 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Streep will be honored with the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film. Previous recipients include Robert Downey Jr., George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg. Streep is currently starring as an aged rocker in Jonathan Demme’s Ricki and the Flash. She co-stars in the upcoming Focus Features film Suffragette as Emmeline Pankhurst, who was a crusader for British female voting rights.
Mendes will receive the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing presented by The GREAT Britain Campaign. The honor pays tribute to a British director who has made an unprecedented contribution to American cinema. Previous honorees include Mike Newell, Danny Boyle, Christopher Nolan and David Yates. Mendes recently directed his second James Bond film Spectre which opens on November 6 stateside.
Corden will receive the Britannia for British Artist of the Year presented by Burberry. The award goes to an emerging or established British talent. Previous recipients for the British Artist of the Year include Emma Watson, Daniel Craig, Kate Winslet, Emily Blunt and Tilda Swinton. Corden has had a successful year in the wake of taking over the hosting reigns of CBS’ The Late Late Show and starring in Disney’s Into the Woods ($212.9M global B.O.).
The Britannia Awards are sponsored by American Airlines. And Done + Dusted will be producing this year’s ceremony.
